Where Are They Now?

Brutus
"Hi! Just wanted to let you know about how Brutus is doing!
He is just a little luv! Very energetic and so alert! I adopted
Brutus in early summer 2007 and it's the best thing I ever did!
We'd both had a bad year up to that point and basically saved
each other! My whole family is in love with him. We had a few
casualties at first - namely a couple of remote controls, and
several shoes and slippers - but I am trained now! I've also
lost 11 pounds and 1 pant size! We also went to obedience
classes at the Crocus Kennel club in September 07 and passed
with flying colours (both of us! ha ha). Brutus wanted me to
tell you he loves his big back yard and is kept very busy keeping
those pesky birds moved from one tree to another. He also has a
best buddie next door (a small poodle names Roxie) and they chase
each other up and down the fence line and have a great time!
Here's a picture taken around Christmas 07.

Hammy (Justin)
"Hi, this is Justin, we changed his name to Hammy because he reminded
us of Hammy off the movie Over the Hedge. As you can see, Hammy has
made himself at home here. It took about 4 days for Zack to stop hissing
at our new baby but as you can see, they are best buds now. When I
received Hammy as a gift, I wasn't sure I wanted another kitten but
wow, can't imagine our house without him now. He is such a cute
cuddly adorable kitty, who by the way, still does not sleep through
the night.. haha Thanks

Corky
"Dear Tracy & Staff, We adopted Corky, January19/2004. We still have
Corky and we wanted to let you all know that he is a very happy, healthy
and lovable dog. He has brought a lot of love to this family. He enjoys
walks and car rides .He loves the snow in the winter and likes to go
camping in the summer. Corky is a very smart dog he is always listening
to us, like he wants to join in on the conversation. It's pretty funny.
We love him a lot. I don't know what our lives would be without him.
He's lovable, playful and has a lot of energy. He is good natured and
loves his picture taken. We are sending you some pictures of Corky hope
you enjoy them, Wishing every-one a very Happy New Year and our best
wishes to all the animals at the Brandon Humane Society."

Pablo
"We just wanted to send an update on Pablo now that we have had him for a year (adopted November
2006). He has fit into our lives really well and he made himself at home right away. Pablo has
many quirks and keeps us very entertained. Shortly after we got him he decided to stake claim on a
clear Rubbermaid tub which he spends lots of time in both sleeping and playing with his toys. He
is a very active cat but he can also be very cuddly and likes to sleep curled up with Randy. Pablo
loves playing his toys as well as 'hunting' bugs and chasing shadows on the walls. We are so happy
we adopted Pablo and are so grateful to the Brandon Humane Society for providing the chance for
people to adopt wonderful animals like Pablo."

Mocha (Bianca)
"Just a little update on how Bianca is doing. We adopted her on December 15, 2006, however we
have changed her name to Mocha. She is doing excellent! She was house trained right from the start.
She has really taken an attachment to us, as we have for her and she is excellent with kids. She
loves to be around people and for being just over a year old she's pretty laid back and just likes
to lay there quietly most of the time. She loves giving hugs and kisses to almost anyone she's in
contact with. She loves to play fetch ... although hasn't grasped the concept that she has to drop
the ball/stick in order for you to throw it again. She also loves going for walks, and plays
excellent with other dogs. She is an excellent dog and we are so glad we adopted her into the
family."

Rita (Tango)
"It's only been a week, but I thought I would send you a little update on Rita (originally Tango).
She's been nothing short of amazing. She is so kind and loving towards all of us. She let's our
children pet her, kiss her, hug her etc. When we put Luke (2 1/2 years) to bed, she jumps up on
his bed and wants to sleep there too while we read a story. When we put Toby (8 mos) to bed, she
also joins us for a story and doesn't want to leave his room. Come our bedtime, she follows us to
the bedroom and needs our help to jump up on the bed and spends the majority of the night on top of
the covers, probably until it gets too cold, then I'm sure she'll want to get under.
She has been accident free for 2 days now and only had a couple of accidents inside prior to that.
Once she figured out the dog door to get outside she was set. She loves spending time in the yard
running around with us, fetching balls and sticks, playing in our garden and digging holes. She has
already figured out the sound of us getting her leash to take her to the dog park when she loves
running and play fighting with all the other dogs. There are usually 5-10 other dogs to play with
each time we go there. She stays fairly close to us when we are there off leash unless she running
around with the dogs, but when she does get a ways away and we call her name, she comes running back,
tail wagging and sits nicely waiting for us to praise her.
She has her own fancy new dog bed that she likes to chew her rawhide and nylabone on, but also likes
spending time up on the couches with us. Oh yeah, she drinks like a fish and loves her meal times.
She goes absolutely crazy when we go to her dog food container, but sits nicely when we tell her.
Like I said, it's only been a week, but we love her to pieces. She is absolutely incredible.
Thanks again, hope you don't mind if we send you another update down the line."

Kodak
"Thought I would let you know that Kodak has adjusted wonderfully to our home. We adopted him just
over a year now. He loves playing soccer, Frisbee, and with any squeaky toy. He also loves to play
with the neighborhood children. Kodak has learned many skills such as sit, lay down, stay, come,
rollover, and many others. Did I mention he likes to watch TV? He particularly enjoys shows or
commercials featuring other dogs. Kodak often barks at the TV screen. I think 'Eight Below' is
by far one of his favorites.

Tucker
"Just a little update on how Tucker is doing. He is such a sweet, loving boy. He was a little
overwhelmed at first to have 5 people and an entire house all to himself but he has quickly adapted
and spends most of his time following us around and meowing at us. If he can't find us he looks for
us and "calls" us. If we sit down he is rubbing against us and coming for hugs and kisses. The kids
love him and play with him and he is really quite a playful guy. Right now his favourite toys are
the kids hot wheel cars. He likes to chase them on the kitchen floor and pounce on them. We
absolutely love this gorgeous boy and we think he is starting to love us too!

Vegas
"I just want to say that "Vegas" has stolen our hearts and is a wonderful addition to our new home
and to our lives. He is what makes us laugh when we come home from work. He is so happy just waiting
for attention, waiting to go outside and play soccer, and waiting to go out for a run. He's been out
rollerblading, hiking, and running. He's even starting to like the water. He's not a big fan of it
but when it's on his terms.... he will check it out. He's learned the "down" command and is learning
the recall command.... although, I don't think the word "come" matters too much to him.... he just
wants to be close to us. He has such an adorable personality. At first he was very calm but as he
started to get more settled, he found the puppy in him. Playing with his squeaky toys and chasing
soccer balls in the back yard. We couldn't imagine our lives with out him!
He's a wonderful traveler and he's already been to the U.S. twice. We spent a week out in the Black
Hills/ Badlands, South Dakota and we just came back from a weekend in Minneapolis where Sean
completed a ½ Ironman. He did exceptionally well around hundreds of spectators. He's not lacking
any socialization skills, that's for sure.
Overall, Vegas is adjusting amazingly well. I think he finally gets it - he's found his family.
He's great with people and he's made a lot of friends at the local dog park. He gets so excited to
play with his buddies. His nickname in the park is "the ref" as he's always breaking up dog fights
and he stands up for the underdog... he may be taking after his mom and dad! ? Our family and
friends absolutely adore him. He so smart and such a good listener, we couldn't ask for a happier
and more loyal friend. He smiles everyday and that makes our day that much brighter. Since we've
brought him home, he just gets better and better every day. We are thrilled to see that we can
give this amazing boy the life he deserves. We thank all of you at the humane society for all your
wonderful work and dedication... all your hard work pays off...Vegas has put a sparkle in Sean's
eyes that I've never seen before (except for me). Vegas gives Sean so much to look forward to after
a long day at work. We laugh all night long watching Vegas. Can you imagine Vegas watching TV... it
hilarious. He really watches it.... like he knows what its about.
I just want you all to know that Vegas couldn't be happier and neither could we. He's just absolutely
AMAZING - and I'm thrilled that you took such good care of him till we found him... he's one in a
million.
Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Friday, Cali, Lacie and friends!
"My history with BHS goes back a way. Approximately 10 + years ago I adopted my first cat from
you. She was named Friday and still is today. About 1 ½ years later we adopted Cali. Cali was born
at your shelter and her mama and all her babies were on the front page of the Brandon Sun. My son
and I came down and picked out the one we wanted when they were just a week old. Cali is a happy,
18-pound beauty now. I moved away from Brandon about 6 years ago but when the time came to add
a dog to our family, I returned to Brandon. We adopted Lacie, a lab/shepherd cross, approximately
4 years ago. Lacie is a beauty and has a WONDERFUL personality - kind and gentle. Now I am a board
member of the Portage Animal Welfare Society and my fur-family has grown to 5 cats and two dogs … a
busy house for sure. I have attached pictures of all 3. The first one is Lacie sitting on my knee
and the tabby to the right is Friday. The little white cat above my head is a rescue from the Portage
area. The other picture is of Cali ... Keep up the good work.

Elle
"Hello there!! I am just writing to update you on how well Elie is fitting into our family! Her
and Dixie (our little wiener dog) play so well together. It's actually really cute to watch b/c
Elie is so gentle with her. She is also a GREAT kid dog!! She can't seem to get enough attention.
Koltyn and Elie have become great friends as they play together all the time. She enjoys her walks
and being outside when she can be (when it's not raining!!!), but most of all she just really enjoys
being where ever people are. She has such a gentle personality and such a caring attitude. She is
one great dog! Thank you for blessing our family with such a wonderful addition!!!

Ellie (Lily)
"Ellie is a 3-year-old Border Collie/Lab cross. We adopted Ellie when she was only 8 weeks old, on
September 24th, 2004. We had been looking for a dog for about a year, and had not found anything
that we felt suited us, so someone suggested looking at the Brandon Humane Society website, so we
did and immediately feel in love with Ellie, who's name at the time was "Lily".
Ellie was been a wonderful addition to our household and we couldn't imagine living with out her.
Although she weighs about 60lbs, she still wiggles her way onto the couch to cuddle. Ellie is a
very loveable, genuine, yet hyperactive girl, so we decided last October that we would get her a
companion to help burn off some of her energy. This time we adopted from Furry Friends, a JRT
beagle cross who was rescued from Ohio. They seem to be the best of friends.
We can't thank the Brandon Humane Society and Funds Fur Furry Friends enough, we appreciate all that
these organizations do, and without you we would not have brought these loving furry friends into
our lives, THANK-YOU. In the picture Ellie is the black and white girl and Tess is the small black
and brown girl.
Thanks again

Jap (Logan)
"Hi! Thought I'd finally drop you a line to let you know how things have been going. I left the
shelter about the 14th of Dec/06. Cause of my color and time of year my name was changed to Jap.
(oranges) My new home took days to explore but I settled in quickly. Dana & her son Brayden made
me feel right at home. Wow , good food and accommodations.
I have two new pals now Nikki (dog) and Buffy (same species as myself.) Both of them were also
homeless. They visit us quite often, along with my baba and gigi and we all get along so well.
I have a few more friends as I'll explain below.
One of Dana's friends moved in with us and brought along her cat, Mistra. What no one knew was that
she was pregnant. I grew up quickly. I consoled her while she gave birth. I help with her 5 babies.
I helped her move them. I watch them and even wash them in order to help out. Everyone is amazed
that I do this, but it seems like the right thing to do. I guess I have adopted them. They are all
doing fine. One of them opened her eyes today. What an experience for me. Helping out is a trait
I learned from you people. I am sending some pics for you to see.
Anyway, thanks for the care you provided for me and in helping me find a home. I really appreciate
it.

Codie (Bear)
"Bear has been the perfect addition to our home. He has stolen everyone's hearts and "grandma" and
"grandpa" thoroughly enjoy when Bear joins them on the farm. We decided to change Bear's name to
Codie. Codie has proven to be an incredibly smart dog who learns very quickly. Codie is a certified
therapy dog and will be learning scent tracking sometime soon. My family and I would like to thank
the Brandon Humane Society for all of the love and care you gave Bear. He is a very special dog
and we are forever grateful to have him as part of our family. All the best.
