Where Are They Now?

Cooper (Chip)
"Hello Humane Society!
Cooper here. I just wanted to say hello and give you an update on how I am doing in my new home. I
was adopted in March by Alanna and Kyle and am loving my new life with my new friends.
Since I was adopted I had a wonderful summer vacation and stayed with them at the cabin. Boy was it
fun! I loved watching the crazy brown squirrels outside and got to go outside on my leash and play
in the grass. I have since moved into a brand new house in Neepawa and I love the big windows and
running like a crazy man up and down the stairs. My favourite part of the day is still when they
decide to do the dishes in the sink. I just can't get enough of the tap and that sink water! It
is so much fun to play with and dip my paws in! My favourite drinking water is the water that is
dripping out of the tap and I am often caught lounging around in the empty sink from time to time.
They have stopped trying to keep me off the counter because they know that I will just get back up
there to watch them cook. And when I sneak into the cupboards when they leave the doors open is so
much fun too. I am very good at making everything an adventure.
My favourite time to play is between 9:30pm and midnight. I love my little toy lion, my catnip filled
sardine, and the balls with bells in them. I love climbing up in the closet when Alanna and Kyle are
sleeping and coming to curl up on Kyle's chest at 5:30am, for that half an hour before he gets up in
the morning. It is so much fun playing hide and seek with Alanna. I can really sneak up on her and
scare her! We have so much fun here in our house and I know they couldn't be happier that they adopted
me from the Humane Society. I feel very loved by Alanna and Kyle and their families, and am happy
that I was able to find them through the Humane Society.

Mystyk, Dusk and Dawn
"Hello Tracy and the team!
It is us, the little ones you took so much care, Mystyk, Dusk and Dawn. We are so happy in our
new home at CFB Shilo. Cynthia and Sylvia are taking care of us like we are Queens. We caused
them a little headache from time to time (breaking a beautiful lamp, wreaking most of the
windows screens and chewing the speakers cables). They still love us very much (We are still
trying to understand why they put tabasco sauce on their wires?? It taste yukky!!).
We have lots of comfortable places in our home to lounge about (like lizzards) :o)) We like
when Mommy Cynthia puts a blanket on their metal filling cabinet in the computer room, and Mommy
Cynthia always has a dish of treats there so we can watch bugs and birds while nibbling.
Mommy Sylvia bought something that clicks but the best part is chasing the red dot buggy thing
along the floors. It moves so fast! She looks so funny in her "grass" dress. She calls that
a "COMBAT UNIFORM". Her friends where she works are very noisy from time to time as we hear loud
booms somewhere outside.
Anyway, we thought that you would like to see us the way we have grown up now. So, here are some
pictures of us.
Well, time to go for our afternoon nap. Talk to you soon! Lots of love and PRRRRRRs!!

Ariel aka Moose
"I just wanted to let everybody know how wonderful Ariel is doing. She is my
best friend and soul mate; I don't know what I would do with out her. It was a rough
start and it took me a year and a half of visits until she was ready to come home but
finally she did. Our family adopted her Mothers Day of 2006 and it was the best mother's
day ever. She has adjusted to family life quite well, wherever we go - she goes.
My 6-year-old son Trent is so smitten with her because he has a play mate that won't run
away. Ariel just sits there while Trent uses her back as a ramp for his cars, dresses her up
in hats, ties, superman capes and sweaters. And when Trent is not there she is constantly
walking through his room looking for him. Ariel also substitutes as a baby sitter, if Trent
is outside playing or riding his bike; she is at the window following his every move.
My other dog Sam (toy poodle) now he is another story. Sam wasn't to keen on this big dog
moving in on his territory until he found ways to use her to his advantage. In the summer
when we go walking, Sam walks underneath Ariel for shade. You really have to see it to believe
it. Sam, who was not found of any dog, now is pretty confident strutting down the walk path
with Ariel by his side. If Sam sees any dog, he does his little growl and then stands back;
this is when Ariel steps in. I swear you can see Sam snickering but Ariel doesn't mind one
bit. On more than one occasion Sam has been in fights and Ariel goes over, picks the dog up
by its scruff and lets the dog know that Sam is off limits. Everything aside I don't know
what they would do with out each other. They are together all the time.
Ariel has come such along way and any family activity we do; she is always ready to go. Every
Christmas, we go snowmobiling to pick out a Christmas tree. Ariel has her booties on and she
runs behind us, dancing through the snow. In warmer months we go quading and again she chases
the quad through the bushes and up hills. Her favorite part of the quad rides is sitting by
the fire for the wiener roast. Now if you would think that all dogs can swim, you would be
wrong. She LOVES the water but she decided to follow me off the dock one day and I thought
she would be fine, I was wrong, she sunk like a rock. I had to swim back and take her to
shore. She is a lot more cautious now and usually stays where she can touch. But I think
her biggest passion in life is squirrels. She hasn't been able to catch one yet but she
sure has fun trying.
Ariel has spent most of this summer in Souris camping with my husband. They go fishing,
swimming, walking and squirrel chasing everyday. By the time summer is over, she will need
the winter to recuperate.
On behalf of the Wowk family, I would like send a huge thank you to the Humane Society for
being a non-kill shelter and taking such good care of my little girl. She is truly a member
of our family and a blessing. Please find enclosed some pictures.

London
"Hello! London, our adorable kitty has settled in to our home
perfectly. She is so loveable and very mischievous at times. She
likes to talk to you, play outside, and cuddle. London has found
a love for watching the mouse on our laptop screen and tries to
attack it all the time! She is always finding new ways to make
us laugh. Another hilarious activity she has taken to is playing
with the plug for the bathtub. She throws it all over the bathroom
and on more than one occasion we have found it in our bedroom.
Silly kitty! We couldn't be any happier to have London as a part
of our family. Thank you so very much for taking care of our baby,
we promise to love her unconditionally!!! " Sasha & Michael

Mitzi and Thomas
"Here is a picture of Mitzi and Thomas Bailey - Two of Norrie's kittens, now one year old. They are
inseparable and do everything together. One of their favourite things to do is sit on the wicker basket
by the front door and watch all the bird activity in our front yard. They are a constant source of
entertainment to everyone in the household and do not realize they are cats (or think we are just one big
happy litter).

Rourke (Brinn)
"I wanted to let you know how much I'm enjoying my new home. I was adopted in Nov, 07' to go live with
my new mom, dog and ferret sisters and cat brother. My name at the shelter was Brin but my mom decided to
call me Rourke instead. I really loved my dog sister right away, especially since I get to be the boss and
she doesn't mind at all. After I got used to the idea of living with a cat, I really like my brother too,
he's a lot of fun to chase and likes to keep me clean and give me 'baths'. That ferret is another story,
I'm pretty sure that she would make a great snack, so my mom is very careful to keep up apart! We tried
to visit the dog park a few times, but since I was always picking fights and only come back to my mom when
I feel like it, we've put the park on hold for a while. Instead we hike on-leash in the Brandon Hills and
at the Discovery Centre, which is a lot of fun too. One of my favorite things is to snuggle up with my mom
on the couch; she doesn't even mind that I snore! I also get to sleep in her bed with my brother and
sister. We are working on my manners, but I still like to stand on the coffee table when nobody's looking!
We went to obedience school in the spring, and even though I didn't pass my mom was really proud of me and
I did learn a lot. My mom says if we keep working together as I get older, I will be a perfect dog! (She
says she can hardly wait!!) I sure love my new family and they all love me! My mom says thanks for letting
me come live with her and that she wouldn't trade me for the world!

Lusie (Raven)
"Hi Tracy and Friends at the Brandon Humane Society, I wanted to let you all know how Lusie (once Raven)
is doing in our home. We adopted Lusie in March 2008 and from the moment she walked in our door she has
been part of the family. She is a loving, caring companion to us all, and there is not one dull moment
when Lusie is around. From when we wake in the morning, to the time that we all go to bed, she keeps us
all laughing and we cannot wait to see her again in the morning. She has such a wonderful personality, is
very playful and loves all of her toys, including her stuffed chicken and cow, and carries them everywhere.
She attends doggy daycare some days and is now enrolled in Obedience Class and is doing very well. She is
very patient, accepts everyone, and is learning to tolerate the neighborhood cats. She loves car rides
and goes pretty much everywhere with us. Even though it has been only a few months, we just don't know
what we would do without her! Thank you all for a wonderful, loving companion!

Nelson
"We adopted Nelson our beautiful blue eyed boy from the BHS 4 1/2 yrs ago, and as you can see he doing
grand. I was told by a lady at the BHS that Nelson was the "cock of the walk" which he still thinks he
is. Wee Nellie, which is what he is lovingly called, as you can see from the pictures is not so wee...lol
(19lbs Vet says no worries he's not fat he's just a big boy). Nellie loves hanging out with his main man
Herman who is another rescue from the BCP and sleeping in our 3yr old daughters princess chair, which he
has claimed as his own. He is like our third child, and we love him to pieces as we do all of our four
legged children. Full of personality and attitude this fat lil man has been a blast to have around.
Thank you so much for giving Nelson to us. Take care and keep up the wonderful job you all do at the BHS
caring for and finding homes for all the animals in need that you do!!!

Tanzie
"Tanzie is one wonderful dog. We sure do love her. She loves tearing up the back yard, going for long
walks, and having friends over for playtime. Her favorite pastime is playing ball. She's very smart and
has learned alot. Awsome adventures await. Tanzie is sister of Meg and used to 'hang' with her, Natasha
and Nero. She was adopted in December 2007. Pictures are from spring 2008.

Kip
"Kip came to live with us in June 2003 when he was around seven months old.
He was a timid, nervous fellow who had clearly been maltreated. Our beloved
golden retriever, Benjamin, a rescue, took Kip under his wing and tried to help
him understand that there is good in lots of humans- Ben believed there was good
in all humans. Benjamin passed away on New Year's Day, long before his time, from
blastomycosis, and our house is still very much in mourning. Kip is still lost,
but we have all pulled together, and are thankful for the memories. Kip will
probably never trust strangers, but he is our boy, and as you can see, very regal
and loved.

Ducky
"Hi everybody! I am writing to update you about our cat,'Ducky'. We adopted her in
June. She's doing wonderfully. She went through her 'evil kitten' phase, and is now a
funny, sweet little teenager. She loves playing with Cosmo (our Great Pyrenees X) and
her new sister, Finley. She makes us laugh every day, and she is always snuggling or
running around. She is queen of the house. She has Alexis and I wrapped around her
little paw. Thank you so much for everything, I can't imagine how boring life would be
without her!!
"
Sincerely, Krista and Alexis

Sera
"We were lucky enough to walk into the Humane Society one summer day
five years ago to see a new mom taking care of her babies. My family had
been to the shelter several times but we had not found the "one." Upon
seeing Sera, my husband and I looked at each other and said "That's the
one for us." We took her home after her babies were weaned and she has
been a delight. She is the most loyal and patient of dogs, very protective
of her two "children". Everyone comments on her beautiful eyes, her
luxurious coat and her quiet disposition.
Here is Sera having a nap on her favorite of napping places ... my
daughter's bed!

Shilah (Courtney)
"We adopted Shilah in Nov./07 and we could not be happier with her.
She is a very good natured dog and is very good with our 5 month old
baby and 6&7 year old kids. We wanted another dog as a companion for
our 4 year old Corgi cross , that was very nervous and intimidated by
other dogs. It only took Kasey 2 days to get used to Shilah and now
they are the best of friends. They play together all day long and
except for a few jealous moments from time to time they, really get
along well. Shilah is really growing and is a very beautiful dog.
Thanks to a great team at the Brandon Humane Society for providing
us with such a great companion.
