Scotia is a 5 1/2 year old Shepherd cross that we adopted from the Brandon Humane Society in May 2007 when she was approximately 5 months old, and has been a cherished member of our family ever since. Don’t let the grey hairs on her nose fool you; she is just wise for her age. We call her our adventure puppy; she loves hiking, camping, and road trips. We’ve taken her from one end of the country to the other, and she’s always excited to see where she is going next. We told her that she’s ready for another big adventure, so she’s excited to see where the world takes her next.

Scotia has not been the world’s easiest dog, but has had much time and effort put into her training. She started at Crocus Obedience School when she was just a pup, but was a bit overwhelmed with all the dogs in the class so she didn’t complete the training. We quickly learned that Scotia does not enjoy large groups of other dogs. She likes to play with some other dogs, but usually in a one-on-one situation; she does not enjoy dog parks. She does go to daycare and loves to get an opportunity to play with other dogs, but also enjoys her quiet time once she has finished playing. More recently, Scotia has worked with Two Brown Dogs to work on some manners and other skills, and loves showing off her new skills.

Since Scotia has had issues in the past with small dogs, she is not suited to a home with small dogs. She does well with some larger dogs, so a home with another dog would be considered, but this girl really needs a home where she will not have to share your love with another dog. She does live with a cat and does well with him, although she does often try to herd him around the house.

Scotia is great with kids! She loves her new baby, and has spent many vacations with my 2 1/2 year old niece. She loves walking by playgrounds because she is sure to draw the attention of crowds of kids. Scotia is completely housebroken, crate trained, and leash trained. She knows all major commands (sit, down, stay), and many others (no, leave it, wait, easy…). She is a very patient dog who would love to find a new home. Scotia does need to go to a home that will allow her to live indoors as part of the family; she would be very sad to have to sleep outside.
